This is for those of you, who, like me, initially, have great difficulty staying motivated in order to lose weight. There is really nothing worse for someone who hates exercise than exercise itself, but, believe it or not, you will learn to love it and the way it makes you feel.
Exercise is always a do-it-yourself venture. No other person and no machine can do it for you. This is why it is important to have those motivating factors so that if you are into exercise in order to lose weight you will hang in there.
This is what people who are overweight need to understand. It is all about your own personal motivation and self discipline without which no matter how easy the instructions are you will never succeed.
Of course, once we are overweight, we usually want to trim down for a whole lot of different reasons, some related to physical condition and fitness, while others would want to enhance their physique and appearance and believe me it is never too late to be fit.
Unfortunately over the past 50 to 75 years, physical activity has become the exception rather than the rule, both at home and on the job. People tend to drive where others once walked. People tend to flick a switch and machines do the hauling, lifting, pushing, and pulling for them.
There are several very important steps for you if you can keep up your motivation and self discipline.
1. Have an explicit goal
A simple statement like, “I want to lose some weight,” is an ambiguous and an indefinite statement. It will not motivate you in the least or help you to start exercising.
What is important is to be precise on your goals. It would be better if you set a specific amount of pounds that you really want to lose. Envisage how you will look after reaching your desired weight, how good your clothes will fit. Doing this will inspire you to lose weight. In fact, maybe even more than you had initially planned. The idea is to use that image that you created of yourself without those pounds to assist you in remaining resilient and dedicated to losing the desired weight.
2. Develop a strategy
Strength of will does not work alone! To lose weight and stay with it, your strategy must comprise of both exercise and diet, and not just one or the other.
Get motivated by throwing away all those big size clothes. This will put you in a situation where you only have your sexy clothes to wear and you make the choice to stay motivated and exercise or you having nothing to wear at all. Which would you prefer?
3. Take small, calculated steps.
Put actions into practice that will suit your lifestyle. This means you have to implement moves that you and you alone will benefit from and not somebody else.
The idea here is to opt for a more positive and attainable goal and not just to shun away from being plump and chubby.
4. Have a friend monitor your progress with you.
It is always better to have somebody willing to take note of your progress or development. This will inspire you to keep on doing what you have started. Having somebody to listen to your achievements is definitely a better prize than just achieving your goal alone.
Besides, having an extra hand to support you and keep you going when things start to fall short is a simple way to keep motivated. Knowing someone believes in you is an incredible motivation to keep you exercising and proving that you can do it.
5. Construct a vigorous, sensible timeline
What do you plan to achieve in a year? Try to plan your objectives onto your calendar, and know that, as much as you would like it to, this will not happen overnight.
The bottom line is that in order to stay motivated to exercise entails a lot of hard work, which is contrary to what most people tend to think. The most important part of losing weight is about changing your lifestyle, only by changing the way you eat, your exercise regime and your outlook on your goals and achievements will you change your weight for the better.
As mentioned above it is important when starting on a weight loss exercise regime that you change your way of eating too. It is vital that you feed your body foods that will give you sustainable energy and that your diet is balanced with a good ratio of carbohydrates, protein, fats and fruits and vegetables along with supplementary vitamins and minerals.
