For most of us, after a stressful day, there is nothing more wonderful than just sitting back and 'relaxing' on the sofa with a glass of wine and something to nibble on. Right? This will relieve our stress for another day, won't it? Probably, but what happens the next day? Stress? Ok now this is a cycle that needs to be broken. I am going to give you a tip on how to lower your blood pressure, pulse and body temperature by relaxing. Did you know that even your brainwaves are different when you are relaxed. Our brainwaves are on full alert when we are driving to work or sitting at our desks working. We produce stress hormones when we are not relaxed and get stressed, our reactions to situations are no longer normal. We raise our voices, our faces become red and blotchy we speak too quickly etc. I am sure many of you experience this several times a week, if not more. Unfortunately there are consequences to stress and the production of stress hormones. These hormones are called 'catecholamies' and come from the adrenal gland. When we get stressed their levels go up to as much as one hundred times the normal level and cause raised blood pressure, racing pulse and increased body temperature. For those people with high blood pressure this can lead, very quickly, to a stroke.
It is vital for our health to keep our stress under control and there is a perfect solution that can really help you achieve the sort of control that will allow you to change your response to situations and avoid stress altogether.
This is one of the most wonderful ways to slow down and become at one with yourself - meditation. If this is new to you and you are not sure how to meditate one of the best things I found when I started out was to use meditation CD's - this is a good one - it is so much easier and relieves the fear of 'not coming back' - we all have those thoughts. Meditation will not only help you relax but you will begin to realise that what you were getting stressed about was not really important at all.
Start with meditation and give yourself time to enjoy it and you will find yourself refreshed, your stress will reduce and it will most definitely lead to inspiration. Almost without realising it you will come up with ideas and insights to help you at home and at work.
Hopefully meditation will help with your stress as it most definitely does with mine.
What you learn in meditation can also be used when exercising. Take along some relaxing music to the gym and listen to it whilst exercising. It allows the mind to wander over things that have happened during the day and helps work things out that you were having problems with.
