Colour is with us every second of every day. During our waking moments we are surrounded with nature’s huge range of colours displayed in flowers, trees, minerals, rocks, bird, and animals of every kind. We use these colours in our homes, on every part of our furnishings, from carpets to walls, and we also wear these colours .
When sleeping, colours appear in our dreams, and during the 24 hours of each day we have our own electromagnetic field, the aura, shielding us with an array of ever changing colours. These colours in our aura are responsible for supplying the systems of the physical body with healing energy.
So we all know there are colours around us 24/7 but do we understand how colour affects our everyday living? Do you have a favourite colour? Was it always your favourite colour or did it change as you changed? How do you feel when enclosed in rooms of certain colours? Why did you choose the colours that you have at home or that you are wearing? Why do we suddenly feel a need to change the colour of the walls or furnishings at home? Why do we use colours to express feelings, ‘such as I’m feeling blue’, ‘green with envy’, ‘ being in the pink’, ‘seeing red’, ‘black rage’? There are so many things that we associate with colour without even realizing that we are doing it. How many times have you set out clothes to wear the evening before and when you get up there is no way that you could wear that particular set of clothes? Was it the colour?
Each colour on the spectrum provides us with energy, every one of them different and colour relates directly to the very essence of our nature. With so much opening up around the field of health and our personal growth many people have become aware that what we can perceive with the five senses is merely the beginning and that there is much more beyond this perception. Colour is the visible part of the whole of the spectrum of light: the safe part of the spectrum which relates to us as physical organisms. The vibrations of colour which exist between the infrared at one end and the ultra-violet at the other are visible to the human eye and safe for the organism. When healing with colour, however, we are accessing healing energies which themselves are not necessarily visible.
We then ask the question, “What is healing energy, I can’t see it so how do I know it is real?”. Do we ever ask whether electricity, magnetism, gravity, or the wind, is real? Can we see them? No but we know they are there because we feel it and see the effects these things have. In the same way most of us cannot see auras, or energetic fields which surround the bodies of all living things, or chakras, the energy stations occurring at intervals down the spines of all living creatures. Yet many people are able to feel auras and everyone can benefit from having their auras re-balanced whether they actually feel the energies as they receive them, or not. There is no way to measure the normally invisible aspects of the energies of colour and we can only rely on the limited information provided by Kirlian photography or by those gifted with clairvoyant sight to expose these aspects.
What we do know, from experience, is that colour does make a difference to how we feel, whether we are wearing it, working within it or just drawn to a particular colour without being consciously aware of it.
Each colour is linked to a specific part of the body and to specific energies:
The colour red is about energy and our link with Mother Earth. It is the first priority for physical life, the energy to love and to live. Red is the earth mother, the very life blood of our world. It anchors our spirit to the body and holds our feet on the ground. Red energy enables us, through the actions of our hands and feet to materialize our thoughts, emotions and even our will. Red is the colour of the base chakra. Red is associated with Vitality, Energy, Courage, Power and Sexuality. Powerful in healing blood disease, circulation problems, increasing blood pressure, depression and enhancing confidence and willpower.
Orange, the colour of the sacral chakra is the second major energy centre of the body. Being a combination of Red and Yellow is combines the physical, earthly energy and vitality of the red with the energy of Yellow, the universal energy which we take in via the solar plexus. Orange is associated with Optimism, Independence and Happiness. Orange regulates circulation, metabolism, helps defeat chest and kidney diseases and it has an ability to energize.
Yellow, the third major energy centre of the body, the solar plexus chakra. Yellow is the ray of sunshine and the solar plexus is the sun centre of all beings and represents the core of our individuality. It is the colour of prana, the universal life force which gives us vitality and strength. Yellow is associated with Mental Ability, Increased Awareness, Wisdom and Clarity. Yellow is very effective in reliving depression and headaches, it has the ability to improve memory and awareness. It also stimulates appetite.
Green is the very centre, the heart centre. It is the fourth chakra with three above and three below. It is where the Blue above representing Divine Will comes together in complete balance with the Yellow of the individual will below. The resolution of these two energies representing the heavenly and the earthly is contained within the Green of the open heart. Green is associated with Growth, Healing and Calming. Green is the overall the color of healing. Green helps calm nerves, relax both mentally and physically, it promotes self control and harmony.
Blue, the fifth main chakra covers the area of the throat. It represents communication both on an earthly level and on a higher level. It offers us protection in a similar way that the blue sky protects the earth. Blue is associated with Peace, Knowledge, Health and Faith. Blue lowers blood pressure, decreases respiration, helps induce sleep and enhances communication.
Violet is the colour of the seventh and final energy station within the traditional chakra system and the last one that relates to the physical body. It is the crown chakra and our connection with the energy of heaven. Violet is the colour of balance, a reconciliation of male and female, hot and cold, heaven and earth, activity and thought. Violet is associated with Intuition, Imagination, Understanding and Purification. Violet helps one connect to their spirituality and enhance creativity.
There are many more colours within the colour spectrum which have particular energies and healing qualities that make a difference to our world every day. A greater awareness of your choice in colour within your world can improve your life incredibly. Trust your instinct when guided to a particular colour and enjoy the benefits of energy that each and every one of them gives you.
